About Kite Eyewear

Kite Eyewear is an independent British brand combining eyewear design with technology. Its approach brings together distinctive frames, high-quality components and innovative production methods, alongside advanced eye testing. With a growing internal development team, Kite was investing in the digital capabilities needed to support its business. Its ecommerce platform formed an important part of that work, connecting its products and customer experience with the systems behind online sales and fulfilment.

The Challenge

Kite needed specialist development expertise to help get its ecommerce platform operational while its internal team continued working on other projects. The task required more than a customer-facing website: the platform needed to connect product information, content, payments and courier services into a working sales process. Kite also required custom functionality, including a free home try checkout option and support for shipment handling. An effective development and deployment environment was needed to deliver these capabilities using its chosen technology.

Our Solution

One Beyond embedded development expertise within Kite’s team and first established a continuous integration and delivery environment using Google Cloud and CircleCI. We developed and customised Magento 2, extending its APIs and connecting the platform with Craft CMS, Stripe and courier services including UPS and DPD. Product catalogue and image imports supported content setup, while a custom checkout enabled the free home try option. Automated shipping labels, tracking, Mailgun email delivery and Sentry monitoring completed the solution, with Docker containers supporting failover configuration.
