Apprenticeships at One Beyond

Apprenticeship FAQs

What is an Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships give you the chance to learn on the job, instead of in the classroom.

You will be employed as an Apprentice Software Developer at One Beyond and have the same rights and benefits as a normal employee. You will attend BCoT one day a week to study, and the rest of your time you will be working on real, live projects at our Farnborough office, to help you to learn software development in a workplace environment. You will be assessed on a continuous basis, with some exams and end point assessments.

Why do an Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships are an excellent way of gaining recognised qualifications, workplace experience and skills, whilst earning a salary.

What qualification will I gain at the end of my Apprenticeship?

You will gain a BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Software Development, which is equivalent to an A Level.

How long does an Apprenticeship take?

A Level 3 Software Development Apprenticeship takes between 15 and 18 months to complete.

What are the entry requirements?

To qualify for an Apprenticeship with One Beyond, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be over the age of 16 and NOT in full-time education
  • Live in England and be eligible to work in the UK
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in English and Maths (equivalent to GCSE)
  • Must have some previous knowledge of coding
Do I have to pay anything to become an Apprentice?

No. As your Employer, we will pay for the cost of your training.

What support will I get during my Apprenticeship?

When you start your employment at One Beyond, you will have an initial 4-week settling-in period. This settling-in period gives you the opportunity to meet your new colleagues and get a feel for office life. You will be supported by our Technical Team and assigned a ‘Buddy’ who will help and assist you throughout your Apprenticeship and your employment at One Beyond.

When you start your Apprenticeship, you will be assigned a Training Consultant from BCoT who will create a learning plan for you and review your progress throughout the Apprenticeship. Your mentor is also there to deal with any concerns or issues you may have. You will also have a Tutor if you are attending college, an Assessor for the work-based learning element and access to the college’s learner services department.
