What is the Agile methodology?

Agile is a type of project management that breaks up the project into different phases, called sprints – short periods of time where the entire team must finish a defined set of tasks. Used primarily in software development, it empowers Agile teams and stakeholders to work together to achieve smaller goals, then evaluate at the end of each sprint to capture the learnings for future sprints and future Agile projects.

Traditional software development methods (notably Waterfall) are set up to deliver the finished product at the end of the project. Only then can it be released into the market. The first significant benefit of using the Agile methodology is that you can release software in waves, with an initial version being built upon by patches down the line.
